Accredited Certification Scheme (ACS)
ACS is a registered qualification and a necessity of you are to work with gas installations. It is also a requirement for CORGI registration.
Generally, the ACS is carried out at external, impartial assessment centres unless it is completed as part of another NVQ, the City and Guilds 6012.
There is a wide range of areas within the ACS qualification that can be assessed and you will be split into one of three categories, existing holder renewing, related holder such as a heating engineer adding to your qualifications or a new entrant to the industry.
Gas Safe Register
Gas Safe Register is the official gas registration body for the United Kingdom, Isle of Man and Guernsey, appointed by the relevant Health and Safety Authority for each area. By law all gas engineers must be on the Gas Safe Register.
Gas Safe Register replaced CORGI as the gas registration body in Great Britain and Isle of Man on 1 April 2009 and Northern Ireland and Guernsey on 1 April 2010.
The main focus of the Register is on improving and maintaining gas safety to the highest standards. We make sure all 123,000 gas engineers on the Register are qualified to work with gas.

Part L
The Building Regulation Part L states that installers fitting new boilers must hold the City and Guilds 6084 proving they are qualified to meet Part L requirements.
